Sandcastles in the Sand...or Abbey's Random Monday

  • Last Friday I forced my friend, Chris, to see My Blueberry Nights. Here's how I went in, "I really want to completely fall in love with this movie...but I'm going in with no expectations." And thank goodness that's what I did... Let me just say this - at probably half way through the movie I would have sworn that at least two hours had passed. I pulled out my phone to check the time...it had only been 45 minutes. It's not that the movie was bad...it's just that it wasn't that good either. The film quality had an old, gritty feel to it, which I really liked. The beginning was good, the end was good...but a lot of the stuff in the middle could have been better...and faster. And, really, they could have taken out the entire Natalie Portman storyline. My final thoughts: I was disappointed by the movie, but quite surprised by Norah Jones performance - not too shabby for a first time actor.
  • The rest of my Friday consisted of Target and Barnes & Noble. Seriously...Chris and I spent hours in each of those stores and enjoyed every second. While we were at Target, we saw something that disturbed us and some things that made us happy...well, it made me happy. Have you noticed how skanky dolls are now a days? This one in particular flashed her naughty bits...I felt like I was seeing Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan getting out of a limo. This doll has on a tiny dress and no undies!! WHAT IS GOING ON???

Luckily, I felt better when I got a blast from my past in the shoe department...JELLIES!

I had a pair in both of these colors. And I really wanted to buy a pair...but there was NO WAY I was going to pay $13 for them. Give me a break. Drew said it best, "You know a shoe is cheap if you POUR it to make it."
Jellies - Clear Jellies - Pink
  • I have a new workout video. It is funny and awesome. It is a burlesque dance video. SO. FUN. Seriously it's really funny but a pretty good workout esp. for your abs. All those bumps and "candy shelves" can really make you break a sweat!
  • How legend...wait for it...dary was How I Met Your Mother tonight? Best line from the night was Barney referencing DeGrassi. Awesome! Not only did they have fantastic guest stars [James Van Der Beek (aka Dawson Leery), Tiffany (80s pop singer), Alan Thicke (aka Dr. Jason Seaver/Growing Pains) all Canadian!!!], but they also had a new Robin Sparkles music video, Sandcastles in the Sand!! Remember the, like, totally awesome Let's Go to the Mall video?

Now there's a new one...but watch the entire HIMYM episode to truly appreciate the newest video. It's so Canadian, eh?
  • I'm known for my weird dreams...but last night was a great one. It was America's Next Top Model meets Ghost Whisperer meets Veronica Mars. (I think I might watch too much television.) So basically I was a contestant on ANTM, but then I would suddenly be a "ghost" (like when Melinda has "flashes" of a ghost's life). And while I was in this vision I was a mummy in disguise, my dad was sitting behind a desk as the museum's curator and we were catching this kid who was stealing stuff from the museum. Then once we caught him, I literally floated back (in my designer America's Next Top Model dress) back to the competition. Weird, huh? But I guess my dad and I make a great crime fighting team...so Veronica and Keith.
  • Have you watched CMT's Can You Duet? It's pretty good...for a crappy reality show. My favorite part is getting to hear Aimee Mayo talk. She sounds like a cute little cartoon character....I love it!!
  • And speaking of even more TV...is it sad and teeny-bopper of me that I'm excited to see new episodes of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill? And that the final episode of Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious is this week? It's pathetic...whatever. I still love watching it all! Oh...and I love The Hills, too, and look forward to it every Monday. Wow. I just confessed all my shameful tv watching to the world. But what do I care...you probably watch really bad tv, too, sometimes! : )
And that's Monday! How was your weekend??

Sarah - I am SO glad your coffee thing works now because it is just SO good. : )

Oh Kimberly - I am so glad that you watch The Hills, too. I don't know anyone else who watches it...I can only talk to Drew about it. And he doesn't really enjoy that. : )

Chris - I laughed so hard when I read your comment...and now I can't seem to read my own post without it sounding like I'm a 10 year old on about 5 straight cups of sugar. : )

I also had pink and purple jelly shoes as a kid, and in high school when they made an appearance again I had a pair of funky clear ones. As God is my witness I will never wear those shoes ever again. Not even if Kate Winslet herself starts prancing around London in them. Ha ha ... and OMG when Barney and Robin kissed I was like NO!!!!!!!!

Your Monday sounds downright exotic to me. I went for a walk in the blazing heat, so that was my 45 minutes outside these 4 walls for the day. I love your fresh insights and your creativity. So much fun to read your blog.

Oh good, now I can talk to someone about Can You Duet. I love Aimee Mayo - the Paula Abdul of the show but so much better.

I loved "Sandcastles in the Sand" -- like, legitimately loved it. I want to download it on iTunes! I am a nerd.

Your dream - kind of creepy, kind of awesome. The real highlight would be a dream where you are a best-of-both-words Veronica-Melinda combo that owns an antique store and wears awesome outfits and solves crimes and has a hot boyfriend/husband but doesn't see ghosts. And has a nice dad and not one who might be trying to sell her soul or something.

How is The Weepies' album???

I must see the burlesquercize when I next see you. It sounds delightful...even if I have no idea what a "candy shelf" is. (Okay, I have one idea -- but it's the kind of thing you'd rather demonstrate than describe.)

Erin - You KNOW you want to wear jellies EVERYDAY! ;) Remember how great they were...and how they made your feet sweat and disgusting...and they left the weird marks and left blisters. They were AWESOME! :)

Hannah - I always love your comments! You are just so sweet and encouraging! Who would have thought that the horridness that was planning the reunion would bring about such a great long-distance friendship?

Mom - I love Aimme, too. But I would NEVER insult her by calling her Paula! :)

Julie - I finally watched the entire vid for Sandcastles in the Sand...it IS a totally great song. A little weird at times..."I'm on the pill now." But still awesome! :: I'm digging your idea of putting the good parts of GW & VM together to make a Super Life! :: The Weepies album is so good...they even have a cover (is it really a cover if they wrote it?) of Mandy Moore's All Good Things. :: You must see the Burlesquercise vid...So Good in so many ways!!

Sara - I had no idea they made bright yellow. I thought they only had translucent pastels!

Dad - We are def. an awesome team!!
