My goal for today is to make this Martha Stewart project to use at the grocery. I usually try really hard to remember to take my canvas bag, but I sometimes have a tendency to forget it at home. But with these guys, I can keep them rolled up in my purse so I always have them on hand. I actually talked about this project and the other things I'm trying to do to save our planet over at Mad About Martha when I did my post on Green Crafts.
Since then, after a little Earth Day research, I've added a few more things to my Green To-Do List...
Since then, after a little Earth Day research, I've added a few more things to my Green To-Do List...
- I'm reading this book
because, let's face it, I'm obsessed with being cute and girly...but that doesn't mean I can't be kind to Mother Earth at the same time. (Check out their website, too, it's really cool and very informative!)
- I now vow to only buy candles made from natural waxes like soy, palm, and beeswax. I had no idea that candles made from paraffin wax come from the crude oil world. Who Knew? I found this out over at Michelle Kaufmann's blog...where she has all sorts of great Earth Day (and everyday) ideas. Take a few minutes to peruse her site...you might actually learn something new! (Or for some Earth Day projects, check out her Earth Day Activity Kit.)
- I'm going to start going to the library to borrow books and read magazines instead of buying them. This is going to be the hardest thing for me to do. There is nothing I like better than heading over to Barnes & Noble and buying a PILE of books and magazines. And, bonus(!), this is just one more reason to invest in the Amazon Kindle! : )
- One thing I haven't had to change are my cleaning supplies...I've already been using eco-friendly Mrs. Meyer's for the last couple of years. Honestly, I bought it because the lavender smelled so good. But now I'm going to continue to buy it!
What are you doing to celebrate Earth Day 2008?

........ I went grocery shopping. And used plastic bags.
I recognize the irony here.
Years ago, on one of the first, if not THE first Earth Day, I baked a loaf of bread. Not sure how that helped the earth, but at the time it seemed an earthy kind of thing to do. :o)
I enjoyed your list. Let me know how the book was when you finish it. Josh and I are hoping to start a compost bin this summer.
Happy Belated Earth Day. I just saw that you are watching "Walk Hard" as I'm writing this comment. Hi-larious!!! And I also see your candy shelf friend. :)
Didn't know about the Gorgeously Green website - thanks for the heads up! Just did a little write-up on the book on Growers & Grocers. Plan on tackling a compost bin this summer...
Sarah - shame shame shame on you! ;) You should get some Chico Bags. They are awesome!
Mom - Making bread does seem very earthy!
Kimberly & Cate - I think that if Drew and I lived in a house we owned, we would start a compost pile, too.
Chris - Walk Hard was pretty funny. Even funnier since I had JUST watched Walk the Line and Ray the day before.
