But today I want to talk about The Davids...David Archuleta and David Cook. To give you an idea of how I felt about them in the beginning (and some other misc. thoughts on AI from early March), here is an email I sent to Chris:
Okay...here are my thoughts on AI this week.Wow. A little violent maybe? (I swear I'm not really that violent...usually.) And why oh why do I even still watch it after having such a brutal reaction? I think having a performing arts background makes you a terrible audience member. Terrible!
My top picks (from last night's performances):
1. Carly
2. Brooke
3. Michael
Who I would like to see be hit by a car:
- David C. (Or Greasy as I like to call him) Okay, he sings great...but seriously with the hair? SERIOUSLY? Because I LITERALLY want to wash his hair and then CUT HIS BANGS!
- David A. (Or Annoying Little S*** as I refer to him) Wanna kick him...can't stand him...he needs to be punched in the throat.
Who annoys me because I think she sounds like a drunk Elvis impersonator in Vegas (and not the "good" Vegas...but the crap Vegas where the casinos and the patrons are OLD and reek of old liquor and stale smoke):
- Amanda
And I just LOOOVE the group songs they sing...and by LOOOVE, I mean I hate it so much I want to cut my ears off and burn them to a crisp so that they never have to hear that crap again AND gouge out my eyes so that they are never again forced to watch such high school choreography (standing in three lines and posing/freezing) Good Lord, we never did anything THAT horrible when I was in HS...and, believe you me, we didn't have that much talent in my school!!
So. I still want to kick David A. There is just something about him that makes me want to tear my hair out!! Maybe it's because he reminds me of so many theatre kids I've worked with previously. You know the ones...they act all sweet and humble when the teacher or director is around, but then they are really quite pompous behind the adults' backs. Those kids are pretty much THE WORST to have to work with...as a fellow actor and as their director. I mean, come on kid, we can see right through it! And last night he did the unthinkable...he made Andrew Lloyd Webber's Think of Me a freaking POP SONG! Please, please, please don't ever disrespect ALW by doing such a horrible thing of turning the beauty that is The Phantom into Bubble Gum Pop.
But! On a much nicer note, I actually have a little bit of a crush on David C. now. Huh. Who would have thought!? (And maybe he got the notice that his hair was awful, 'cause that got fixed a few episodes ago.) But let me just say: That boy is talented! I mean seriously! Not only can he sing...but he can perform AND he can manipulate his songs so that they fit his style and sound brand new. His Mariah Carey performance? Didn't even recognize that he was singing "Always Be My Baby." And he, who always changes his songs, was respectful enough to not touch the magic that is Music of the Night. Bravo! He nailed it.
Whew! I feel so much better now that I've gotten that off my chest. Although, I have to say, I thought I would NEVER see the day that I would be talking about American Idol on my blog (or anywhere for that matter). NEVER!!!

You're so sneaky you didn't even tell your own mom, who is an avid AI fan, you were watching this season!
I think you're being a little harsh on David A. Naomi Judd blurted out at the CMT awards red carpet (after sharing a dressing room with Paula Abdul) that David A.'s dad is THE worst stage dad. Maybe that's where your bad vibes are coming from.
I think Jason has the kind of voice that will end up being timeless - sort of like James Taylor.
I don't even know what to say. Mainly because I've said it all to you before. Maybe David C. will be like John Mayer to me. I like to hear him but I can't watch him sing. :) Let me give a little love to Carly who kicked some SERIOUS butt on Jesus Christ Superstar!!!!!
Love the labels on this post - American Idol, David Archuleta, David Cook... and Violence. I usually tune in to AI near the finals, but I have yet to see a single episode this season. I have friends blogging about their grief over some guy named Michael Johns (I think???) getting kicked off. It's all they posted about for days and days.
Picking on poor little David A. like that ... ;)
I'm really bummed that Carly left - I think Jason should have gone before her, but I'm sure there's a large contingency of female teeny boppers keeping him in. But dude, whbile you're there, can we see some emotion or personality?!
Carly's performance was, so far, the only one I rewound and watched again - so good.
Michael Johns was the hotness. However, David Cook is not too shabby! If someone scrubbed him down a bit more (I'd love to see hair with a little less product), I think he just might have it. Because his voice? Is totally there. I think he's a very savvy performer with a wide range of abilities.
I can't believe I'm actually getting into Idol a bit this season. Usually I totally don't care. But I do mean "a bit" -- I seldom watch all the performances. Most of them I just don't care about either way. And Josh haaaates it, which might explain it a bit more.
mom - Blech Jason. He needs to go. I think he should have gone over Brooke.
Chris & Cate - Can you believe they kicked Carly off after that awesome performance???? CRAZY!!
Hannah - I am usually an end of season watcher myself. But I think I got sucked in early because there was NOTHING else on tv. Stinkin' writer's strike. ;)
Julie - Yeah, David C. still needs a little cleaning up. He better watch his hair because it's starting to get a little too spiky...and we don't need another "fierce" Christian what's his name from PR. Again, I blame the Writer's Strike for my interest in AI.
